Pet Food Ingredients Provenance / Arden Grange Pet Food Safety Statement

We have had several enquiries from concerned pet owners following the recent Menu Petfoods recall.
We would like to assure all our customers that NO Arden Grange products are affected.
The main problem is suspected to be contaminated Chem-Nutra wheat gluten, traced to a supplier in China called Xuzhou Anying Biologic Technology. Wheat gluten is a mixture of two proteins obtained when flour of wheat is washed to remove the starch. One use of wheat gluten is as a filler and binder in wet-style, cuts-and-gravy-type pet food. It provides a gelatinous consistency and is used to thicken pet food "gravy." There is still debate about the actual contaminant, with FDA (US Food & Drug Administration) officials advising that melamine (a chemical commonly used in plastics) is the problem, whilst the New York Department of Agriculture are blaming a rat poison called Aminopterin.
Whilst it is mostly moist foods (i.e. cans and pouches) in the USA and Canada that have been affected by this scare, some treats and dry foods are also now giving cause for concern. The full list of recalled pet foods can be found at the following web-link http://www.menufoods.com/recall

Arden Grange recipes are all free from wheat gluten, and we are confident that both our cat and dog feeds can continue to be fed safely to your pets.
This is not the only case of contaminated pet foods to have shocked pet owners internationally. A USA company producing veterinary prescription diets was recently the subject of an FDA warning as a result of the inclusion of chromium in their diets. Chromium is unlicensed for use in pet foods in the UK, and has been linked with acute renal failure in humans.
A manufacturing error last year in the production of feeds for a large corporation resulted in excessive amounts of Vitamin D3 in the food. This can cause an abnormally high level of calcium in the blood causing animals’ kidneys to malfunction.
We would like to reassure all our customers that Arden Grange are committed to the provision of the best possible nutrition for your dog. Furthermore, we are a family owned independent business and our range is produced in the UK from ingredients which are sourced especially for their quality. All of our grain ingredients are obtained from the UK and Europe. All materials used in Arden Grange products are purchased to a fixed specification and are tested on intake to ensure conformance. The foods are then manufactured to a fixed recipe. We will never reduce the quality of our ingredients because of market prices.
